DiscountSteelBuildings.com Foundation Information

Discount Steel Buildings strongly recommends that all building foundations, including pier sizes, grade beams and floor slabs, be designed for your building by an highly experienced foundation engineer located in your vicinity. The engineer you select should be able to recommend excavation procedures, drainage considerations, form work, requirements for reinforcing steel and concrete proportioning. Your engineer should be able to provide you with proper designs and a quick work schedule, to help keep your costs minimal.

Proper construction techniques should be applied with the steel building as placed on the foundation. All excavations should be level and smooth and great care needs to be taken to prevent cave-ins when concrete forms are placed against the excavation walls. OSHA guidelines and other local codes and laws should be strictly adhered to, regarding shoring of excavations, to prevent cave-in. If the ground surface is not level, the bottoms of the steps should be in steps coinciding with the piers. All fill areas should be compacted to prevent settling cracks. All footing should extend below any fill.

Obtain a good finish on the floor slab and ensure that the slab is entirely at the correct elevation. Outer corners of the foundation need to be sharply formed, with straight sides and level tops. This allows neat seating and alignment of the base angle.

Foundation for Discount Steel Buildings' Checking Procedure

It is important that your DiscountSteelBuildings' foundation construction and anchor bolt settings be accurate. Follow these procedures to minimize errors and delays:

Measure diagonal dimensions to be sure they are the same length and determine that the foundation is square. Use a level rod to obtain the elevation of columns and posts and determine that the foundation is level. The location of all the anchor bolts should be checked against the Anchor Bolt Drawing provided by DiscountSteelBuildings.com. All dimensions must be identical.

Anchor Bolt Settings For Discount Steel Buildings' structures

Anchor bolts must be placed accurately to the anchor bolt setting plan. All anchor bolts should be held in place with a template to remain plumb and correctly located during concrete placement. Concrete forms and anchor bolt locations should be checked prior to the concrete pouring. After completion of the concrete work a final check should be made before the building is erected. This will allow for any corrections to be made before erection labor and equipment is utilized.
