DiscountSteelBuildings - The Use of Fiberglass
What is Fiberglass?
Fiberglass as an insulator has been used successfully, internationally, for many years in a wide variety of building structures. Fiberglass insulation is available, in many varieties, for use in a broad range of construction applications. However, you should only order and install fiberglass insulation product that is specifically designed for steel buildings. Specifically, steel building fiberglass insulation is compromised of blankets of long-strand fiberglass that is woven and laminated on one side to the vapor-barrier facing. Deciding on how thick the fiberglass insulation should be and what type of facing that you require, are important considerations.
The Thickness and “R-value” of Insulation
The fiberglass blanket has different insulating qualities in direct correlation to the thickness of the material. As a general rule the thicker the insulation material, the more heat flow is reduced. The “R-value” of fiberglass is the efficiency and effectiveness of the insulation. The accepted numbers for fiberglass blanket insulation are listed below:
Vapor Barrier ….2”
R-10…….3”
R-13…….4”
R-19…….6”
R-30…….10” (roof only)
The DS Builder™ design, pricing and ordering system allows consumers the ability to place up to 6” of insulation in the walls of their building. 10” insulation, if necessary, is limited to a roof-only application. All DiscountSteelBuildings.com packages include white, double reinforced polymer tabs, and will be pre-cut when the customer provides building layout showing the opening locations. Your insulation choice will not be shipped with the building but a DiscountSteelBuildings.com project manager can help you in organizing and coordinating delivery times for both the building and insulation. Contact your DiscountSteelBuildings.com project manager at least two weeks before your requested delivery date. The insulated building price you receive, however, is a direct price. Some states require R-30 insulation in the roof and R-19 insulation in the walls. Check with your local building department for your local requirements, or let our project manager assist you.
