Panel Options: Skylights

September 28th, 2008

(continued from last week … )

Some of the most popular available options for any steel roof include skylights and wall lights. Both of these options are translucent panels and are available in the standard profiles. Both wall and skylights simply replace the steel panels where they are installed. Skylights and wall lights allow for a lot of natural light to enter the interior of any steel building. Some people do not require any additional lighting in their building because the building is only occupied during daylight hours and the skylights and/or wall lights provide more than adequate interior illumination on their own. Use of only natural light can obviously reduce electrical energy expenses. Most people choose to configure steel buildings with either skylights or wall lights by placing one translucent panel on either side of each bay.

Panel Options: Price and Pitch

September 21st, 2008

(continued from last week … )

Both Galvalume® and Galvalume Plus® are extremely durable and siliconzed polyester paint warranties are very lucrative. The choice of what type of roof to order for your steel building is a matter of price and pitch. For steeper pitched roofs (3:12 pitch and higher) you may want to choose a colored roof simply for aesthetic reasons. Conversely you may not want the added expense of a colored roof on lesser pitched structures as you do not get line-of-sight “credit” for this enhancement as it may not be visible at street level. Higher pitched roofs are more prominent and better for drainage and the building’s overall look. You can see almost the entire expanse of a 3:12 pitched building by standing only a few feet away from the structure.

Panel Options: The Galvalume® Coating

September 14th, 2008

(continued from last week … )

Manufacturers and suppliers include unpainted Galvalume® PBR (purlin bearing rib) roof panels in their standard steel building offerings. Galvalume®, incidentally, has a natural dull metallic finish color. A colored steel roof is available to order at a slightly higher price than the uncolored version. Colored roofs consist of a Galvalume® sheet that has been prepped and coated with a silicon polyester paint before the building is fabricated.

Panel Options: The Galvalume® Formula

September 7th, 2008

(continued from last week … )

Most manufacturers and suppliers of steel buildings provide Galvalume® roof panels. These are made with a special formula. Galvalume® sheets are manufactured by coating steel with an aluminum-zinc alloy that gives the product more than double the corrosive resistance of galvanized steel. Most steel building manufacturers and suppliers utilize Galvalume Plus® sheets for any unpainted steel panels and Galvalume® sheets for any colored panels.

Panel Options: An Important Choice

August 28th, 2008

Discount Steel Buildings offers a wide variety of buildings. We can build you a new structure for commercial, agricultural, or private use. In fact, we have even provided buildings for the government. With each building comes a choice of exterior materials that includes brick, stone, stucco, and even wood and glass. But, choosing the best materials for the outside walls is not the only choice to complete the building; there is still the choice of panels for the roofs. Choosing the correct steel panels is important to the integrity of any steel structure. So, we wanted to spend some time over the next few weeks to discuss this process. If at anytime you have questions, then don’t hesitate calling. We’d be happy to help.

Choosing The Right Frame: Endwall Framework

August 21st, 2008

(Concluded from last week … )

You will also need to determine which endwall structural framework to use. There is not much deviation in the designs for this frame segment. Selection should ensure that all columns within the structure endwalls are of single or double cold-formed channels and with a steel measurement of not more than 14 gauge. The endwalls provide load resistance to this portion of the building and reinforcement for the building wall girts. The best choice of framework is critical for the successful completion of any building erection project and the buyer’s peace-of-mind over the useful life of the steel structure.

Choosing The Right Frame: Column Adaptation

August 14th, 2008

(Continued from last week … )

In working with an architect or designer, the building owner or General Contractor needs to make a determination on what class of column will adapt best to the framing system selected and for the function of the building. Straight, tapered, or another type of column system would be the choices. The option of any tapered column selection should be the preferred selection because straight columns tend to be more expensive.

Choosing The Right Frame: The “Free-Span” Option

August 7th, 2008

(Continued from last week … )

“Free-span” systems continue to gain popularity in the manufacturing industry because of the many variations of floor configurations assemblies is a priority for most building buyers. The expenditure for this style must be carefully worked out. If you do need parts of your building partitioned off, the efficiency of the building may not warrant the expense of a free span feature. There are few manufacturers that can handle the engineering and production of these larger steel buildings with extensive space for “clear-span” area.
