August 31st, 2007

It is all up to you to let your needs be known. When do you need the building delivered? Call the manufacturer and let your needs known! The total completion time for a steel building may vary. From start to finish it could take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. Yet, when contrasted to conventional methods of construction, this is a lot quicker. Since the completion of the steel building project–from design, fabrication, to shipping–will take some time, the customer ought to allow plenty of time.  >>>to be continued

When is Your Building Going to Be Delivered? 2/5

First and foremost, it needs to be clarified that the dealer and/or supplier is responsible for all delivery details. Most likely, a standard carrier company will be used to bring the new structure to the job site. The common carrier company is the one who will be responsible to receive the building materials from the steel building supplier and then bring it to the work site. The onus is all on the customer to receive it and all materials at the building site and/or delivery address unless this responsibility is subcontracted to a building contractor. By and large, the pre-fab steel building supplier will deliver the building to the address identified on the invoice. However, in order to double-check that your new building is shipped in to the correct address, it is all up to the customer to make sure that everything is accurate on the paper work.  >>>to be continued We at Discount Steel Buildings are a reliable company that you can trust to ship your new building to the correct address. When is Your Building Going to Be Delivered? 1/5

As a new steel building customer, in order to help ensure that you understand all of the aspects applicable to the delivery of your structure, you’ll have to be in contact with the manufacturer on a regular basis. Of course, once the building is finally hauled in, construction can now begin. (It should be delivered according to your design specifications and be pre-engineered or ready to be assembled.) Usually, this is handled by a third-party carrier although some steel building suppliers do deliver via their own fleet of trucks. When you’re contracting with a professional supplier, they tend to be reliable in delivering your new pre-engineered steel building just the way you ordered it. Whenever you have special accommodations for shipping, figure this into your schedule and especially don’t wait until the last minute to inform the steel building supplier. Changes to shipping arrangements close to the shipping date might cost you a lot of money in fees. >>>to be continued

A number of building inspectors may require that your drawings be stamped by an engineer. Design calculations and engineer stamped drawings are available from most professional building manufacturers and/or suppliers. Most organizations will demand an engineering deposit from you before complete standard erection drawings can be provided. Anchor bolt plans will provide your local foundation engineer with all the essential information to design a solid foundation for the building. Many companies utilize a computer generated drawing program in order to accomplish this. The drawings provided by the building supplier will also include diagrams of each connection that will be used in your steel building as well as cross-section diagrams for every part of your building. Do not wait for someone else to handle all this paperwork for you.  >>>to be concluded

A permit drawing is more than likely to be necessary, too. (It certainly is in many places across the U.S.) This is required for the approval of your project. Inquire with the steel building manufacturer or supplier you are contracting with to find out whether this permit drawing is available pre-purchase.  >>>to be continued

You’ll be better off in the long run if you obtain a copy of the purchase contract for the new pre-engineered building that you are getting ready to purchase. What if you are unsure if the structure you are choosing will meet code? Talk to the inspector at the code office. He will be qualified and knowledgeable in helping you.

Before you purchase a pre-engineered steel building find out how many (and what) building code requirements it has met. Don’t settle for just the minimum amount. You could end up with a building that is not up to code for your area. Here’s a little word of caution. Just because a building manufacturer has identified one of its buildings as having met code does not mean that the building will necessarily meet ALL of the building codes for your particular area. There are basic codes that a manufacturer may meet at a minimum level. However, you want more than that. You want your steel building to not only meet these building codes, but surpass them. This is an indication that you are dealing with a reputable manufacturer which will stand behind its product. However, you will be responsible to find out if the building meets the codes of the designated area in which construction will begin.     >>> to be continued

Just a Little Preparation 1/6

Many purchasers who are considering a new building are unsure of the paperwork and applicable building codes that will be needed to help guarantee a successful completion to their project. Before you can begin construction, a building permit is necessary. Will the structure be built outside of city limits? If so, then it is possible that it may be exempt from local zoning regulations and therefore a building permit would be unnecessary. If you bought a pre-engineered steel building before you knew for certain that you had a building permit to proceed with the construction and then found out after you had already handed over all your cash that you could not build in the area you wanted to, you would probably be out a lot of money.  >>> to be continued
